Day 1
Jon dropped me off at Waterton Canyon at 5:30 with a good hug. 6 miles to the dam on a dirt road along a river. Then you go to trail and start climbing. Met a few folks because you keep seeing them. All VERY friendly ended up camping with all of them. Most folks did the same as I and did 16.6 miles to a big river. Probably 15 little tents there. Wherever there is a flat spot. Often very close to each other. Everyone quiet and polite. It was a hard day but not bad
10 hours on trail, climbed 2830’ up, 16.6 miles. Camped at 6240’. Had to set up in the rain but then it quit. Being carful on knees on down slopes, using poles. Also right Achilles acting up. All is well.
A mile in the mountains is a lot further than a mile in the neighborhood!
Off to a great start!
Were praying for you and a quick healing on that right heel! Go your own pace!
Looks beautiful!! Take care
