Moose encounter. I am about 1/2 mile from camp in the morning up on a top, Continental Divide actually, and see something coming. Here comes a moose right at me just trotting. There is zero cover and I am just standing there. So I start videoing and just stand there. He was just on the go with no ill intent and I actually was not concerned at the time. He passed by about 50 yards away. Way cool.
Thought I was going to have an easy down morning. Was I ever wrong. The trail was going down this gorge. The top started with 27 switchbacks to get into the gorge. It was a crazy rocky steep rocky mess of a trail if that is what you could call it. Trail? Including 4 avalanche fields that had to be crossed. Think hundreds of trees and rocks piled up and spewed about in chaos. The piles averaged 10-20 feet deep and a hundred yards across. Log hopping, crawling, balancing, and so on. I went real slow, thinking if I was going to get hurt, this is where it would be. My poles were invaluable.
Resupplied at Molar Campground and had a shower. Cost is $5 for 4 min. I doubled down. Did shower laundry as well. Socks and grundies on the shower floor as you shower you walk on them and the soap from you works on them.
15 miles. At mile 412.
Don’t get hurt now!! You are almost there!!
I thought you were on the easy half of the trail?
Almost to the prize! Way to be living the dream…see you soon, safe and smiling!
